Eli Smith (f. 1955, Tórshavn) er føroyskur myndlistamaður, sum er limur í myndlistafelagnum Mynd. Hann hevur síðan 2003 beinleiðis brúkt náttúruna sum sína palett, har ið hann fyri ein part málar við ymsum mjølvaðum náttúrutilfari (sokallaðir “grótmálningar”), men eisini sker grót í flísar til meira umfatandi brotamyndir (mosaikk). Tilfarið er bæði úr Føroyum og úr øllum heiminum, og tún listamansins er fult í søgum um sjómenn og onnur, sum hava borið honum fjaldar dýrgripir Skaparverksins. Myndevnini á grótmálningunum eru sum heild ekspressionistisk landsløg, meðan brotamyndirnar serliga fara í dýpdina við bíbilskum myndevnum. Listin stendur ongantíð í stað, og tíðum finnur Eli upp á aðrar nýggjar tøknir, sum eittnú at mála við vatnlitum oman á límað marmordrúss úr Grikkalandi (“steinakvarell”).

Eli Smith (b. 1955, Tórshavn) is a faroese pictorial artist, who is member of the faroese artists association Mynd. He has since 2003 worked directly with Nature as his palette, where he on one hand paints with diverse grinded nature pigments (so called “stone paintings”) and on the other hand cuts stones into pieces to create more meticulous mosaics. The natural material comes both from the Faroes as well as from the whole world, and the artist’s yard is characterized by stories of seamen and others, who have brought him hidden treasures of the Creation. The motives of the stone paintings are overall expressionistic landscapes, whereas the mosaics especially go in depth with biblical motives. Eli never stops growing as an artist and often invents furthermore new techniques, like for instance painting with watercolors onto glued marble drizzle from Greece (“stone aquarelle”).
