Collaboration with Rannvá H. Mortensen:

Guðrið Poulsen (b. 1961) is a Faroese artist and ceramicist whose practice unfolds across sculpture, ceramics, text, and walking. Educated in ceramics in Finland and Iceland, she has maintained her studio in Tórshavn since 1987. While her work includes functional vessels, sculpture, and public commissions, these categories are less separate disciplines than interwoven strands within a continuous inquiry.

Poulsen has exhibited throughout the Nordic countries as well as in the United States and Germany, and has collaborated with fellow Faroese artists including Tita Vinther, Astrid Andreasen, Rannvá Holm Mortensen, and Jón Sonni Jensen. Her first poetry collection, accompanied by photographs, was published in 2023 by Eksil. She received the Faroese Government’s Merit Award in 2013 and the Government’s Honorary Award in 2022. Her works are represented in the collection of the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands.

An upcoming solo exhibition in Bucharest, Romania, continues her ongoing exploration of material, body, and landscape. In 2026, a new poetry collection will appear, alongside an artist’s book created in collaboration with Rannvá Holm Mortensen, combining texts and collages.

Reflecting on her practice, Poulsen writes:

“In short, my work revolves around exploring the relationship between the body and the world and bodily memory. Over the past many years, this has taken the form of walking in the area surrounding the capital, engaging with a specific geography and geology; investigating human traces and our connection to the environment. This materializes concretely in sculptures, both large and small, texts (publications), and walking practices (art hikes) in the landscape, alone and together with others. This is where my cups come into play. Everything is part of the same investigation.”
