Ole Wich has been a distinctive figure on the Faroese art scene since the middle of the 1980s with his conceptual works that span a wide range of subjects and explore many different media and materials.
His artistic practice is often driven by a targeted interest in societal issues within current social, political and cultural themes. In some cases, he uses provocative elements in the artistic expressions to spread the works to the audience.
The works often explore circumstances of perception of materials, motifs and media and always try to investigate and expand artistic possibilites. The contributions of the specific expressions and characteristics of media and materials are always used consciously. He often uses discarded materials and objects that possess history through use and age. The works are for sale, but not made to be sold.
The artistic expressions are usually based on simplification and redundancy allowing the viewer to contribute to the interpretations themselves.
He places most emphasis on participating in activities in the local Faroese context, but has participated in exhibitions and events in Rome, Sweden, Finland, Greenland and Denmark.
Ole Wich has received grants from the Faroese Culture Foundation several times and received 2023 "Sømdargáva landsins" (acknowledgement from the Government of the Faroe Islands).
